Summer 2014

STEPPING INTO SUMMER

Warm weather arrived early this year and with that comes sets of feet and toes shouting to be set free. Sandals?
Sand? Soft grass? Yeah, baby! Let’s investigate what it’s going to mean to keep your feet happy, healthy and looking
good this summer.

For how important they are, feet are often ignored as an integral part of the body’s health system. As a holistic
practitioner, I often remind people that the largest pores in our body are on the bottom of our feet. As a sensory
organ, the feet are amazing: they not only allow us to perceive the ground we walk on, but to absorb heat, cold and
regulate all the systems of our bodies to maintain overall health.

In Chinese medicine, the condition of the feet is integral to understanding one’s overall health (it’s so crucial, it’s
actually considered a separate body). With an abundance of nerve receptors, important information is constantly
relayed from the feet to the central nervous system; these receptors are divided into vital energy sections that
correspond to particular areas of the body. For example, sensory nerves of the internal organs spread throughout the
body, but they mostly gather around the soles of the feet. Additionally, the foot contains meridians associated to the
spleen, liver, stomach, kidney, bladder, and gallbladder. With all these systems in the body, it’s crucially important for
balance in the body’s energy system. Proper balance supports strong qi (energy flow) and vibrant health.

Walking: The best exercise to maintain HAPPY, HEALTHY FEET, contributing to overall improvement in circulation,
weight control, and all-around wellbeing.

Reflexology: A practice dating back thousands of years that involves massaging the feet with acupressure to relieve
stress, illness, and pain. Additionally, it stimulates mental, emotional and physical healing while also promoting
for all body systems. Rejuvenating meridians and improving circulation in the feet allows for better detoxification
throughout the entire body. Because each area of the foot has energy channels, rubbing particular zones will
stimulate the channels to be opened for healing and detoxification. Removing toxins can be done through methods
like Ionic Detox Foot Baths, or Mineral Rejuvenation Foot Baths. We aren’t done yet: reflexology can also be used
to treat internal organ diseases, relieve internal discomfort, and relax the body. Because blockages are evidence of
a disturbance in the body’s corresponding area, removal of a blockage in the foot will improve the blood and nerve
supplies (as well as the energy flow) to the body, returning the body’s function to its desired state of homeostasis.

Mud Packing: As a QRA practitioner, mud packing the “downloads” (feet and hands) must be done first if you’re
removing toxins from the body so that your drainage pathways are open. This is a key part of your journey to vibrant
health as studies have shown that human tissues can contain over 700 difference chemical residues. Practicing
cleanses and colonics is not enough to get to the root drivers without first opening the drainage channels.

YOUR PET’S PAWS: I love animals — cats, dogs, horses… my Froggie – and I often give them coffee enemas,
mudpacks, and essential oils when needed. To calm them, try lavender/frankincense; for fleas, peppermint; for burns,
lavender. Stay tuned for upcoming articles on Four Paws Natural Lifestyles!
